Summary
This virtual machine executes code written in ActionScript 1.0 and ActionScript 2.0. This was eventually superceded by AMV2, the virtual machine used to execute ActionScript 3.0. However, to maintain backwards compatibility with existing content, AVM1 remains in Flash Player so that ActionScript 1.0 and ActionScript 2.0-authored content will continue to function.
